Apocalypse Bridge

Parked at the "shortcut trail" landing - this cut about 2 miles off our trip and about 500' of elevation - that would be important for this trip Ollie and Thor playing in Wash Creek Wash Creek near where Pick creek meets it - very tranquil Thor playing in Wash Creek - he really enjoyed the water Looking downstream towards where Pick creek comes in - you can see the big log where we usually come out Thor playing in Wash Creek - he really enjoyed the water Part of the "pink flag detour" (as Kirk called it). Part of the old road had slid away and someone had flagged a route above the slide - but it was pretty difficult to get around Part of the "pink flag detour" (as Kirk called it). Part of the old road had slid away and someone had flagged a route above the slide - but it was pretty difficult to get around The "Apocalypse Bridge" - Overturned bridge near Coffee Creek on Wash Creek Look at all that twisted rebar - some of that rebar is over an inch thick and it was twisted like rubber The top of the bridge From the top of the overturned bridge looking downstream - the old road bed is to the left (it is almost impossible to see now) Another view of the old roadbed View from the old roadbed looking upstream In another 20 years the bridge is probably going to be in the trees! Another example of the forces at play - that larger rebar is over an inch thick - and it just crushed the concrete Thor and Ollie playing in the creek with Kirk The cnayon walls in this area are pretty steep - that was an interesting rock formation above the old road The good part of the old roadbed - this was relatively easy to walk on - except for the up and down due to the ripped up roadbed This was the big washout on the roadbed. It just completely fell away into the creek Looking upstream from the big roadbed washout Looking upstream from the big roadbed washout
