Pyramid Butte

Trailhead at campsite #5 at Horseshoe Lake campground Looking back at Olallie lake and Mt Hood PCT Part of the burned area - Pyramid Butte fire from 2010? Our goal later in the day - Pyramid Butte - aptly named - Mt Jefferson in the background Looking back on the trail with Ruddy Hill in the background (behind the trees) A really cool rock formation - hard to see in this photo but the rock is curved! Trail across base of rock formation - PCT in Jefferson Wilderness I think this is where we made a wrong turn and got lost in the fire damage Beautiful fall colors Old Skyline trail sign Old phone line going up Pyramid butte Mt Jefferson peeking over the top Old phone line insulator on Pyramid Butte Mt Jefferson in the clouds from Pyramid Butte Olallie Lake and Olallie Butte from Pyramid Butte Old lookout on Pyramid Butte Interesting pools down in the basin - we will see these later in the day Ruddy Hill - We will see this later in the day Looking down to the base of Pyramid Butte - it is almost vertical at this point Mt Jefferson finally comes out of the clouds. Breitenbush Lake Olallie Lake and Butte I think that saddle/pass is Park ridge or Russell Ridge where the PCT goes over to Jefferson Park - Better view of Mt Jefferson from the West side of Pyramid Butte Trail coming down from Pyramid Butte and burn damage Mt Jefferson and Pyramid Butte Old phone box on Ruddy Hill - it is continuing to deteriorate Old building at Breitenbush campground This must have been posted before the area resorted to Tribal ownership Strange springs at the bottom of the valley. We saw these from the top of Pyramid Butte Hard to see in this photo, but the water in this spring is about a foot taller than the surrounding area Another photo of the spring - reminds me of the hot springs at Yellowstone, but this isn't hot This spring is almost two feet above the surrounding ground Where we were earlier in the day (You can barely see the trail up towards the top of the hill) Pyramid Butte from the bottom of the valley - Pretty impressive, especially thinking we were on top of that! Car in the Clackamas on the way home - we got delayed - they had run off the road and into the river - apparently the driver was OK.
